A Year on the Wing
Using the Cuyahoga Valley National Park as a home base, Jim Roetzel will take you through a year of bird photography.  Jim will discuss photographing birds at home and where to go should you have opportunities to travel.  Jim will share location tips, travel trips, a little bit about gear and image handling, and of course, tips to improve your bird photography.  Some tips are site specific, but most can be used regardless of your shooting location.
February 21 2018 Members' Show Members of the Cuyahoga Valley Photo Society are invited to bring up to three images of recent work to the February meeting to shares. An optional critique of the images will be offered by professional photographers. Please visit the Photo Society gallery web page to view the requirement for the images submitted for review and critique.

Flying Jewels: Dragonflies and Damselflies of Ohio
Join us for a photographic foray into the natural history, biology and the importance of dragons and damsels. Information will be provided as to how to approach this insect group for obtaining better photographic images. In addition, tips will be given as to make your yards and gardens more attractive to these amazing aerial insectivores.

Warbler Warm-up
Many people travel to Ohio in the spring to take advantage of the excellent birding opportunities as warblers travel through our state.  Matt and Kelly will get you ready for all things warbler, whether you want to photograph our avian visitors or just add to your birding life list.  They will give you tips for better bird identification and locations where you are most likely to see warblers.  You will even leave the meeting with written notes you can refer to throughout the spring.

Presque Isle Through my Eyes
Join photographer Brian Berchtold for a visual tour of Pennsylvania’s Presque Isle State Park.  You will travel throughout the Park, from the Tom Ridge Environmental Center and to beaches along Lake Erie to the signature island lighthouse.  This 12-mile journey will include birds, wildlife, landscapes and different photographic sites of interest.  Get ready for your own excursion to this nearby oasis this summer.

Wildflower Portraits
CVPS President David Longfellow will present a program on phographing wildflowers. He will include information on tools and techniques including focus stacking for maximum sharpness. He wil share some of his extensive colledtion of flower photos from around Ohio and elsewhere.

Photographing Sports
Join Brent Durken as he discusses various aspects of photographing sports at all levels, from Little League Baseball to the highest levels of professional sports. During the presentation, Brent will cover camera equipment and suggested settings for sports photography. Additional topics include how to prepare for sporting events, what to bring with you, what you should expect on game day and what is expected of you during and after the events.

Expand your Vision with Video
Most digital still cameras also can capture high-definition video.  Jerry Jelinek will help you get started telling stories using video images so you expand your photographic vision—using the capabilities your camera already provides.  Jerry will show examples and describe basic video techniques to help you get started.  Perhaps even more important, he will talk about how your mindset needs to change in order to approach a subject via video rather than through traditional still images.

Join other CVPS members for an enjoyable evening reviewing all the entries for the 2018 annual photo contest. Results of the judging will be announced, including the Tim Thomas “Best of Show” award for the top-rated entry.
